Potland Burn has been the most recent UK Coal Mining Ltd site to be approved in Northumberland.  The following are extracts from the decision notice issued by Northumberland County Council to UK Coal Mining Ltd on 7 May 2009 in regard to the Potland Burn opencast development, near Ashington.  The extracts give an indication of some of the conditions required by Northumberland County Council and have been selected to give a suggestion of some of the issues of concern to local residents.  The conditions applied to Hoodsclose, should a successful application be made, may differ from those listed for Potland Burn.
